Today Amazon lowered the price of the Kindle from $299 to $259, for the US version. Yes, the real news here is that the Kindle has gone international. Amazon introduced an international version of the Kindle for $279. The Kindle as well as 200K+ English books can now be bought overseas in 100+ countries and territories. As always, this is done via the Kindle’s 3G radio, with AT&T taking care of the roaming agreements. Amazon’s aggressive pricing comes in the face of rising competition and the upcoming holiday season. No word on whether foreign language books will be available, but newspapers and magazines from around the world will be available upon launch. The international version can be preordered now, and will ship October 19. If you’re a bookworm that love traveling and are constantly on the move, the Kindle will lighten your bags!

Update: It looks like big brother Kindle DX will also be going international. No dates or prices, but according to Amazon’s Drew Herdener the DX international will make an appearance “sometime next year.”
